I'm a writer and editor living in Fort Greene, Brooklyn.I'm currently a Contributing Editor at New York Magazine, where I've written about everything from Chelsea Clinton's wedding to the New York technology scene. I've also written for The New Yorker, The Daily Beast, The Awl, Gawker, Slate, Details, the New York Post, the New York Daily News, Publishers Weekly, and Jezebel. (You can read samples of my work on the Clips page.)
I've worked full-time as a writer and editor at The New York Observer, Gawker, and Philadelphia Weekly. I currently run a website, Postcards From Yo Momma, that publishes emails, IMs and texts from moms to their adult children; a book based on the site, Love, Mom: Poignant, Goofy, Brilliant Messages from Home, came out in April 2009. (You may purchase it here!) I founded a literary non-fiction magazine, The Crier, that published four issues. I've interned at Slate, Radar (R.I.P.), Philadelphia Magazine, and the Boston Phoenix. I have degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and Columbia Journalism School.
Before I figured out what I wanted to do with my life, I had a bunch of different jobs: transcriber of old Dragnet episodes, candy store employee, babysitter, swim instructor, ad sales assistant, library desk attendant. I also have a master's degree in European history, which I got when I thought I wanted to spend the rest of my life in archives and/or classrooms.
